__Course Description:__

Students in this part of the course will begin by studying the areas of central tendency such as the mean, median, mode and midrange followed by the weighted mean and distribution shapes. They will then proceed to analyze population variance, sample variance, standard deviation, the coefficient of variation, Chebyshev’s Theorem and the Empirical Rule. This will be followed by investigating measures of position including standard scores, percentiles, quartiles, deciles and boxplots. Finally the students will study probability distributions, mean, variance, expectation, the binomial distribution and other types of distributions.

__Course Objectives:__

1. To summarize data using measures of central tendency such as the mean, median, mode and

midrange.

2. To describe data using measures of variation such as the range, variance and standard

deviation.

3. To identify the position of a data value in a data set using various measures of position such

as percentiles, deciles and quartiles.

4. To use the techniques of exploratory data analysis to discover various aspects of data.

5. To construct a probability distribution for a random variable

6. To find the mean, variance, standard deviation and expected value for a discrete random

variable.

7. To find the exact probability for X successes in n trials of a binomial experiment.

8. To find he mean, variance and standard deviation for the variable of a binomial distribution.

To find probabilities for outcomes of variables using the Poisson, hypergeometric and

multinomial distributions.

__Course Description:__

For the second semester students will initially cover the definition of statistics and measurability.

After that the students will have the opportunity to focus on data collection as well as statistics and technology. They will then focus on categorical frequency distribution, grouped frequency distributions, histograms, frequency polygons, relative frequency graphs and distribution shapes. They will then analyze other types of graphs such as bar graphs, pareto charts, pie graphs and stem and leaf plots. The students will then move on to investigate complementary events, empirical probability, the law of large numbers and subjective probability. Finally the students will analyze the addition rules for probability, multiplication rules, conditional probability, factorial notation, permutations and combinations.
